What is a Cable Termination Tower?

Cable termination towers are key transition structures connecting high-voltage transmission overhead lines with underground cable systems.

Serving as core steel structure facilities at the end of the power grid, they undertake multiple functions, including single-side conductor tension anchoring, cable terminal mounting, surge arrester deployment, line insulation transition, and electrical safety isolation.

They are critical equipment for substation access, converting urban overhead networks to underground lines, and integrating new energy power plants into the grid.

1. Steel Monopole Cable Termination Tower

Designed with a single-column steel pipe structure, using Q355B high-strength steel pipes as the main material. The overall design is simple and occupies minimal space, suitable for compact urban areas and scenarios with high landscape requirements.

Tower height can be customized as needed (8m-25m), suitable for 35kV-110kV voltage levels, offering the advantages of high wind load resistance, convenient installation, and efficient operation and maintenance.

It features an integrated terminal mounting platform and lightning protection grounding system, with corrosion protection using hot-dip galvanizing and closed coating technology.

It can be widely applied in urban green belts, inside substation fences, industrial parks, and other narrow sites, balancing practicality with aesthetics, significantly reducing the difficulty of site selection.

2. Multi-Circuit Cable Riser Pole

Specifically designed for multi-circuit cable riser requirements, supporting 2-4 circuits simultaneously, suitable for 110kV-220kV high voltage levels. It uses a modular pole structure, combining cable terminal mounting, lead transition, and electrical safety isolation functions.

The pole is optimized for stress distribution and can bear the unbalanced tension of multiple circuits, with multiple reserved terminal mounting points and maintenance platforms.

Multi-Circuit Cable Riser Pole is suitable for multi-circuit grid integration in new energy power stations and urban distribution network expansion, eliminating the need to build multiple single-circuit facilities, effectively streamlining project land use and construction costs, achieving centralized management and efficient maintenance of multi-circuit lines.

3. Gantry Type Cable Termination Tower

Adopts a double-column gantry structure with customizable span (10m-30m), suitable for 110kV-220kV voltage levels, offering strong load-bearing capacity and sufficient electrical safety distance. Mainly used for large-capacity cable terminal mounting and transition nodes between long-distance overhead lines and underground cables.

The gantry crossbeam has multiple reserved mounting points, capable of supporting multiple sets of cable terminals and arresters simultaneously, suitable for substation outlets and cross-region line terminal connections for large-scale projects.

It features outstanding structural stability, can withstand extreme weather loads, meets the acceptance standards of large power grid projects of the State Grid and Southern Grid, and is suitable for high-load, high-reliability power transmission needs.

4. 132kV Transition Transmission Tower

Custom-designed for 132kV voltage levels, focusing on the transition between overhead lines and underground cables, integrating the dual functions of terminal tower and transmission tower. It handles cable terminal mounting, insulation transition, and can also anchor tensioned conductors and redirect the line.

The tower uses an angle steel lattice or steel pipe combined structure, with sufficient stress redundancy, compliant with DL/T power industry standards. The anti-corrosion system is specially optimized for different regional scenarios, and it can be widely applied to 132kV new energy grid integration, urban and rural grid renovation, and industrial park dedicated line transitions, ensuring smooth transition and safe transmission, balancing universality and specialized adaptation.

1. Special structure

Different from the two-way balanced force design of conventional transmission towers, Anbang cable terminal towers are exclusively strengthened for unidirectional super-large unbalanced tension.

The main materials, tower legs, and flange nodes of the tower body are all encrypted and thickened and optimized, and the anti-overturning and anti-twisting performance far exceeds the general tension-resistant tower standards.

The basic bearing capacity is reserved for redundancy and adapts to DL/T power industry specifications, which can resist extreme winds, icing, and seismic loads, avoid the hidden dangers of terminal line disconnection and tower offset from the root cause of the structure, and ensure the long-term stable operation of the end link of the power grid.

2. Integrated platform design

Our Cable Termination Tower features a built-in, standardized platform for mounting cable terminations, surge arresters, and lead-in transition brackets. This design integrates traditional standalone termination structures, mounting brackets, and grounding systems into a single, unified tower structure.

This design eliminates the need for constructing additional civil engineering support structures, thereby reducing the required land footprint as well as minimizing construction procedures and material consumption.

Furthermore, this integrated platform design incorporates dedicated access pathways for operations and maintenance, along with safety protection facilities. This facilitates convenient equipment installation, routine inspections, and emergency repairs, ultimately lowering both the overall project capital costs and long-term operational and maintenance expenses.

3. Weather resistance and anti-corrosion system

The main structure of the tower is constructed from Q355B high-strength, low-alloy steel, utilizing a dual-layer protection process that combines hot-dip galvanizing with a sealed anti-corrosion coating.

The coating thickness and anti-corrosion formulation have been specially optimized by Anbang to withstand the harsh environmental conditions of coastal regions—characterized by high salt spray, high humidity, and strong sea winds—providing robust resistance against salt corrosion, oxidation, and acid-base aging.

All structural bolts and flanges undergo similar anti-corrosion sealing treatments, ensuring a designed service life of over 30 years.
